Guide to the Andalucian 'white village' of Torrox
El Peñoncillo beach runs parallel to the old N-340 coastal road and is about 1,400 metres long and, on average, about 20 metres wide. The area is semi-urban and the beach is, shall we say, ‘rustic’.
There are a number of restaurants and chiringuitos along the length of the beach, including El Ancla, Al Manzur and Merendero Costa del Sol.
The chiringuitos are a great place to relax and watch the world pass by.
Several of the places specialise in ‘espetas de sardinas’ – sardines on a stick – and you can often see them cooking on barbecues as you drive past. Or if you’re on the beach, you get that lovely barbecue smell that just makes you hungry.
