Council wants a skate track for the municipality
The PSOE government in Torrox has announced that it will continue to push for the financing of a skating track in the municipality after the new regional PP government in Málaga shelved the project. The Council believe their is a great demand amongst the youth in the area for such a facility.
Diners injured by drunk driver
Five foreign tourists were slightly injured while having lunch on a terrace in plaza de la Constitución, Torrox, when a driver lost control of his vehicle. The vehicle hit one of the large plant pots which in turn hit a tree and two tables on a cafe terrace, slightly injuring the diners.
The driver of the vehicle was tested for alcohol and found to be almost three times over the legal limit.
Publication of marina project
The manager of the Public Ports Agency of Andalucia (APPA), Sergio Moreno, and the delegate of Public Works and Housing in Malaga, Enrique Benitez, announced that the proposed marina project in Torrox will be made public in six months.
The publication of the project will allow institutions and citizens to make representations relating to the project. However, one must bear in mind that there is an election coming up in March.
Torrox and Nerja to establish boundary between the two municipalities
The municipalities of Nerja and Torrox have initiated contact to establish the boundaries between the two municipalities, an exercise which requires the setting up of committees in both towns. more
Thieves make off with beehives
It is not only fruit, veg and machinery disappearing from local farms on a regular basis. Thieves have reportedly stolen 100 beehives from locations in Torrox and Frigiliana. The hives, valued at €12,000, were taken at the weekend. The hives were not visible from the road and are fairly well hidden, which leads to the conclusion that the thieves know the area well.
Beekeeping has become more popular in Málaga province in recent years and two years qago the first Honey Museum was inaugurated in Los Montes.

The mayor of Torrox, Francisco Muñoz (PSOE), has written to the new government to request an urgent meeting to discuss a solution to the perennial problem of beach erosion at Ferrara Playa.
Bono Loto jackpot winner is from Torrox
A lucky Torrox resident won €3,562,637.11 on the Bono Loto on Tuesday, the winning ticket having been sold in the Faro area of Torrox Costa.
Council aiming to reduce fuel bill by 25%
Torrox Council is hoping to save around 25% on its fuel bill, around €6,000, with the installation of ECO-CAR devices in its vehicles. more
Over 2,000 illegal buildings in Torrox
An inventory of irregular housing in the Axarquia presented by the Junta de Andalucia in March 2011 lists some 12,760 illegal buildings, most of which could become legal on January 10th 2012 as announced by the president of the Junta de Andalucia, José Antonio Griñán. However, only 22 of the 31 municipalities submitted inventories and there are some important omissions. more
Drugs seized near El Faro
National Police arrested 13 people as they were in the process of unloading 1,560 kilos of hashish from a small inflatable boat near Torrox Costa lighthouse. more
