Major works costing more than planned

The two major projects financed under the First State Investment Plan, more commonly known as the Plan Zapatero, have both suffered long delays and will ultimately cost around €184,000 more than was anticipated. more

Junta requests Council to halt VPO project

The Junta de Andalucia has written to the Council asking them to immediately stop the sale of two municipal plots of land in the Barranco del Puerto, the planned site of 152 VPO (subsidised) houses, due to ‘irregularities’. more

ASECOT concerned about change to marina plans

The Association of Entrepreneurs and Businessmen in Torrox (ASECOT) has expressed its deep concern about the change in location of the future marina. The original and approved site was at Vilchez beach on the border with Nerja but this has apparently been changed to arroyo Frontiles in Nerja.

ASECOT says it will fight the decision and hopes that this attitude will also be adopted by the Council and all political parties in Torrox.

New book on sale today

Local scholar and researcher Salvador Márquez Galindo has been scouring the Spanish archives and compiling a book containing unique facts about the Iglesia Parroquial de Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación. more

Council wants an explanation

Torrox Council is asking for a formal and detailed explanation of why the proposed marina will no longer be built on the Nerja-Torrox border at Vilches beach as previously planned. more

Big winner

Several local winners of the special ONCE draw on Sunday, one lucky soul scooping €6,000 per month for 25 years! Nine other people won €25,000 each and all the tickets were sold by the one vendor, Manuel Núñez. Although the big winner has not yet been identified, it is thought to be a local resident as opposed to a tourist as most of the vendor’s customers are local residents.

New library inaugurated

Torrox now has a new public library, the third in the municipality, follwing the inauguration on Friday of the new facility located in the multi-purpose centre on the coast. more

Urban development ends 2009 with a deficit

The Urban Development department of Torrox Council ended 2009 with a deficit of €200,000 and the first three months of 2010 are not looking particularly healthy. more

PSOE critical of government on salary issue

For the second year in a row the local PSOE have denounced the ruling coalition government (IU, PSA, PIU, PP) for failure to comply with the general political agreement to freeze municipal salaries as a means of expressing solidarity during the current economic crisis.

According to the PSOE, as from January 1st the corporation has applied the budgeted salary increases, going against the general agreement being implemented in most municipalities.
